 This video shows persons with Alzheimer’s disease talking openly about the impact that the 
 disease has had on their lives. It is useful for both family members and health care professionals.
 Alzheimer’s Disease: Let’s Talk About It

 This video provides a basic introduction to AD. It focuses on 5 common questions and answers them using
 actual persons with the disease and their families. Outdated only in terms of its information about drug treatments. 
 Alzheimer Journey: A Three Video Series

 This three part series focuses on helping family caregivers understand Alzheimer disease and how best to cope
 with it. The videos discuss the beginning, the middle and the end stages of the disease from the point of view 
 of family caregivers. They offer resources and each one emphasize the importance of the caregiver caring for 
 themselves. Videos can be viewed separately or together. Workbooks accompany each video.

their seriously ill spouses, one of whom has Alzheimer’s disease and the other, Parkinson’s disease. It clearly 
depicts the concerns, frustrations and fears of the caregivers, the emotional and physical toll on them and the 
difference that help can make.
 Caring for Someone with Mid to Late Stage Alzheimer's disease

 This video explores some typical changes and issues that occur in the mid to late stages of Alzheimer's disease.

 and how important it is to have good relationships with older adults. 
 Early Onset Memory Loss: A Conversation with Letty Tennis

This video shows a middle-aged woman in the early stages of AD, trying to cope with the changes imposed upon 
her by the disease. It addresses misconceptions about people with memory-impairing illnesses. It is dated in that 
the current medications in use to treat AD are not mentioned.
 The Educated Caregiver Series

 This is a three-part series on topics important to family caregivers who are taking care of someone at home.
 While it is not focused specifically on the care of someone with dementia, its information is useful. Family 
 caregivers as well as healthcare professionals give their views and suggestions on the topics presented. The 
 tapes can be viewed in any order and are divided into segments for selective viewing.

 Facing Difficult Decisions ( Part I of Dealing with Alzheimer’s)

 The Forgetting: A Portrait of Alzheimer’s (VIDEO AND DVD)

 This documentary weaves together the experiences of persons with Alzheimer’s disease and caregivers, the 
 history and biology of Alzheimer’s and the ongoing struggle to end the disease.  David Hyde Pierce hosts a 
 half-hour follow-up program with experts providing advice on coping with the disease. Comes with a discussion 
 guide. 
 The Great Brain Robbery (by Joanne Koenig-Coste)

 This is a brief and moving collage of photographs of people with AD that is accompanied by 
 Ms. Koenig-Coste’s poetry and voice speaking the thoughts of those depicted. 
 Helping People With Dementia with Activities of Daily Living

 This practical video shows both professional and family caregivers how to break down ADLs into simple 
 tasks that people with dementia can perform with more independence and ease. Particularly helpful for as 
 a teaching tool for certified nurse assistants to use in home care situations. 
 He’s Doing This to Spite Me: Emotional Conflicts in Dementia Care

 Three caregivers openly share their experiences and frustrations as they interact with their loved one
 who has dementia. These scenes are integrated with comments and evidence from professionals in the field 
 of dementia care. The video teaches family and professional caregivers ways to handle emotional conflicts.
Video comes with a teaching and discussion guide. 

Hi Buddy: The Developmentally Delayed Individual with Alzheimer’s Disease

 This program uses the story of a 53-year-old man named Roger to help caregivers understand the symptoms
 and progression of Alzheimer’s when it occurs with Down Syndrome and to suggest ways to help people with
 both Alzheimer’s and Down Syndrome remain as independent as possible. 
 Home Is Where I Remember Things: Alzheimer’s as a shared journey

 This video portrays three different real-life situations of persons with Alzheimer’s disease being cared for 
 at home. Family caregivers as well as home health care professionals give insight into ways to cope at 
 home with the challenges of the disease. 
 How to Communicate with Someone who has Alzheimer’s Disease or a related dementia

 This video defines Alzheimer’s disease and its effects and teaches communication techniques that 
 can bring a higher quality of life both to the person who has Alzheimer’s and to the caregiver. Topics 
 covered include repetitive questions, doing chores, aggressive behavior, answering difficult questions 
 and the use of language and other forms of communication. 


I Have Alzheimer's Disease; A Chronicle of Human Experience(DVD)

This DVD gives the viewer a rare and intimate look into the lives of several individuals living with
Alzheimer's Disease in it's earliest stages. The people interviewed share their personal symptoms
and daily frustrations as well as encouraging words and techniques for living well with Alzheimer's Disease.
 In and Out of Time: Living with Alzheimer’s Disease

 This film produced by a student about her grandmother, deals with caregiving and other family issues. 
It comes with a discussion guide. 
 Just for the Summer

 This video was written specifically for a teen-age audience. It dramatizes the story of a teen-age boy 
  whose grandmother with Alzheimer’s disease comes to visit “just for the summer”.

 My Challenge with Alzheimer’s Disease

 Diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in her mid-50’s, Beverly Wheeler talks in this video about
 what it has been like for her to live with this disease. This is a realistic yet hopeful portrayal of 
 someone who has early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. 
 Nurse’s Aides: Making a Difference

 This video is designed to provide nursing home aides with skills for handling difficult behaviors
 shown by dementia patients.  It comes with a viewing guide. 
Orientation to Alzheimer’s Disease

 This video presents an overview of the disease, including common myths and stereotypes, 
 physical and psychological symptoms and changes, the role of the physician, and finding assistance and support. 
 It includes a learning guide and sample handouts. 
 Pieces of the Puzzle: A Five-Part Series

This is a training program for improving the quality of care provided by the health care professionals and by family caregivers. It also provides practical information to improve an understanding of the disease and to increase empathy and caregiving skills of those who work with people who have AD. It comes with a detailed training manual to be used with the videos.

 his 87-year-old father who has Alzheimer’s disease. It is a poignant portrayal of a man who in spite 
 of his deficits can still teach about life and how to live it fully. 
 Reflections on Memories Lost: Stories of Early Alzheimer’s disease

 This is a staged portrayal of two individuals who have Alzheimer’s disease: Booker, a man with mild
 AD cared for by his daughter and Bea, a woman with mild-moderate AD cared for by her husband. 
 Expert commentary on symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of AD is also provided. 
 Solving Bathing Problems in Persons with AD 
1996      22 minutes     National Alzheimer’s Association 
 This video gives suggestions on how to give a bath to someone with AD. It demonstrates both good
 and bad techniques. It’s excellent for nursing home training as well as caregivers at home who are
 having difficulty with this task. 
 Someone I Love Has Alzheimer’s

 This video is designed to help children and families cope when a loved one has Alzheimer’s disease.
 Children who are dealing with a loved one with Alzheimer’s share their thoughts and feelings. 
 A curriculum guide is included with the video. 
 University of Pittsburgh: Three Part Series 
1993      82 minutes in total       WQEX/16 Pittsburgh 
 Filmed in Pittsburgh in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, this series of videos 
 provides basic information about the disease and its impact on family caregivers. It focuses on real 
 caregivers and patients who are Afro-American. Series can be viewed separately or together.

 This video is a PBS documentary on Alzheimer’s disease that discusses both scientific research

When Your Parent Needs You; A Guide to Positive Growth When Caring for Aging Parents

This video focuses on the positive aspects of caregiving and on what caregivers can obtain from 
their experience. Topics covered are: becoming your parent’s caregiver, experiencing life changes 
through caregiving, recognizing and dealing with the stress of caregiving and growing as a caregiver.
 Working it Out: Support Groups for Nurses’ Aides

 This video is aimed at reducing turnover and stress among nursing assistants by showing re-enacted
